Korangi District, established in 2013, serves as the heavy industrial, manufacturing, and commercial engine of eastern Karachi. Located strategically along the coast, the district functions as an economic anchor hosting major industrial zones, refinery infrastructure, and widespread retail clusters. Spread across densely populated urban sub-divisions, it encompasses critical commercial layouts alongside massive, low-income residential zones, positioning it as one of the highest density industrial and manufacturing jurisdictions in the province.

Korangi District is well connected through major roads such as Korangi Road , Shahrah-e-Faisal, National Highway (N-5), and the Korangi Causeway. However, heavy traffic congestion, deteriorating road conditions in several neighborhoods, inadequate maintenance, and encroachments create significant transportation challenges, particularly in Korangi, Landhi, and Shah Faisal Colony.
Many areas of Korangi District experience chronic shortages of safe drinking water due to inadequate supply from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC), aging distribution networks, leakages, and illegal connections. Residents in Korangi, Landhi, and Shah Faisal Colony often rely on private water tankers to meet household needs.
Healthcare services are provided through public facilities , including district and teaching hospitals, basic health units, and numerous private hospitals and clinics. However, rapid population growth, overcrowding, limited capacity of public health facilities, and unequal access to specialized healthcare continue to place pressure on the district's healthcare system, particularly in low-income settlements.
Although Korangi is one of Pakistan 's largest industrial districts, unemployment and underemployment remain significant concerns, especially among youth. Industrial slowdowns, skill mismatches, informal employment, and periodic closures of manufacturing units have reduced stable employment opportunities for many residents.
Industrial emissions , inadequate solid waste management, sewage disposal, air pollution, and contamination of stormwater drains and Korangi Creek are among the district's major environmental challenges. Urban flooding during the monsoon season, caused by blocked drainage systems and rapid urbanization, further affects residential and industrial areas across Korangi District.
