Karachi West has an extensive road network connected through major arteries such as the RCD Highway (N-25), Northern Bypass (M-10), Hub River Road, Manghopir Road, and Shershah Road. However, many internal roads in Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Mominabad, and other densely populated neighborhoods suffer from poor maintenance, traffic congestion, encroachments, and inadequate drainage, leading to frequent disruptions, particularly during the monsoon season.
Many communities in Orangi Town , Baldia Town, Manghopir, and adjoining localities experience chronic shortages of safe drinking water due to an inadequate distribution network, aging infrastructure, water theft, and dependence on water tankers. Irregular water supply remains a major challenge for both residential and commercial areas.
Public healthcare services are provided through district hospitals , secondary care facilities, and numerous Basic Health Units and dispensaries. However, healthcare facilities remain overstretched due to the district's large population, with residents in low-income settlements facing limited access to specialized healthcare, overcrowded hospitals, and shortages of medical staff and equipment.
Although Karachi West hosts the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE), one of Pakistan's largest industrial zones, unemployment and underemployment remain significant challenges, particularly among youth. Industrial slowdowns, closure of manufacturing units, and a large informal labor market have reduced stable employment opportunities.
Karachi West faces significant environmental issues , including poor solid waste management, industrial pollution, air pollution from heavy traffic and manufacturing activities, inadequate sewerage infrastructure, and urban flooding during heavy rainfall. Informal settlements are particularly vulnerable to flooding, sanitation-related health risks, and environmental degradation.
