Priority issues & challenges

1. Road infrastructure

Karachi South has an extensive road network connecting Saddar , Clifton, Lyari, Civil Lines, and the Karachi Port area. However, heavy traffic congestion, deteriorating road conditions in older neighborhoods, inadequate parking facilities, and encroachments significantly affect mobility, particularly during peak hours.

2. Water supply

Residents of Lyari , Saddar, Clifton, and adjoining localities frequently experience irregular water supply, low water pressure, aging distribution infrastructure, and dependence on water tankers. Water losses through leakages and illegal connections further exacerbate shortages.

3. Health

Karachi South hosts several major tertiary-care hospitals and specialized healthcare facilities , providing advanced medical services for both district residents and patients from across Sindh. Despite this concentration of healthcare institutions, densely populated low-income areas such as Lyari continue to face challenges in accessing affordable primary healthcare, preventive services, and maternal and child health facilities.

4. Unemployment

Although Karachi South is a major commercial and business hub , unemployment and underemployment persist among low-income communities, particularly in Lyari and surrounding neighborhoods. Limited access to formal employment opportunities, vocational training, and skills development contributes to income inequality.

5. Environmental challenges

Karachi South faces significant environmental issues , including poor solid waste management, coastal pollution, urban flooding caused by inadequate drainage systems, air pollution from heavy traffic and industrial activities, and increasing risks associated with climate change and sea-level rise along the coastal areas.
