Karachi Central has an extensive road network connecting major commercial and residential areas such as North Nazimabad , Liaquatabad, North Karachi, New Karachi, and Gulberg. However, traffic congestion, deteriorating road surfaces, encroachments, and inadequate maintenance remain major challenges, particularly on busy corridors during peak hours.
Many neighborhoods in Karachi Central experience an inadequate and irregular supply of potable water due to growing demand , aging distribution infrastructure, water losses, and dependence on water tankers in some localities. Water theft and leakage further exacerbate supply shortages.
The district is served by several public and private healthcare facilities , including Sindh Government Hospital Liaquatabad and Sindh Government Hospital New Karachi. However, high population density places significant pressure on health services, resulting in overcrowded facilities, long waiting times, and limited access to specialized healthcare for many residents.
Despite being a major commercial and industrial district , Karachi Central faces persistent unemployment and underemployment, particularly among youth. Limited formal employment opportunities, a growing labour force, and the prevalence of informal-sector employment continue to pose socioeconomic challenges.
Karachi Central faces environmental issues including poor solid waste management , air and noise pollution, inadequate drainage, urban flooding during monsoon rains, and the gradual loss of green spaces due to rapid urbanization. These challenges negatively affect public health, urban mobility, and the overall quality of life.
